Hucknall is at a crossroads. The government is pressing ahead with plans to reorganise local government in Nottinghamshire, replacing the county’s nine borough and district councils with a single unitary authority. While this change is intended to streamline services, it also means decision-making will be further removed from local communities—leaving towns like Hucknall without a dedicated voice.
At the same time, there is growing concern over Nottingham City Council’s ambitions to extend its boundaries, which could further impact Hucknall’s future governance and identity.
We must act now to protect Hucknall’s identity and ensure our residents continue to have a say in how our town is run. By establishing Hucknall Town Council, we can:
• Safeguard Local Representation – A town council would give Hucknall its own elected representatives, ensuring our community’s needs and priorities are not overlooked by a distant super council.
• Protect Our Identity – With Nottingham City’s expansion plans in the background, we must strengthen our local governance to prevent Hucknall from being absorbed without our say.
• Improve Local Services – A town council could take control of key services that matter to residents, such as parks, community events, and small-scale infrastructure projects.
• Give Hucknall a Stronger Voice – Without a town council, decisions affecting Hucknall could be made by those with no direct connection to our town.
